The red soil found in certain parts of India is mainly due to the presence of ferric-oxides, also known as iron oxide, in the soil. This is caused by the weathering of rocks and minerals that contain iron. As the iron in these rocks and minerals reacts with oxygen and water, it forms iron oxide, which gives the soil its distinctive red color.
