After the death of Alexander the Great, his empire was divided among his generals. The Eastern part of the empire, which included the region of Persia and parts of Asia, came under the rule of Seleucus Nicator. Seleucus was one of Alexander`s most trusted generals and he took control of the territories after a period of power struggles. He established the Seleucid Empire, which lasted for several centuries and became one of the major Hellenistic kingdoms. Seleucus implemented Greek culture and language in the region, but also adopted local customs and traditions. This resulted in a fusion of Greek and Persian culture, known as Greco-Persian culture, which flourished under the Seleucid Empire.
